Pavement Distress Inventory

Pavement Distress Inventory work has started. The idea is to use the collected orthophotos and panoramic images as well as a specialised software to identify pavement defects on the roads. Area of cracking, number of potholes, area of pavement loss and area of edge break are collected in the beginning. The images can later be used to collect other inventory items such as number, type, location and condition of traffic signs and railings. [Read More]

Bridge inspections

Bridge picture

It was thought that there are some 100 bridges in Saint Lucia before the RMMS project started. During the inspections it has been found out that the total number of bridges is over 220. Bridge inventory inspection is on-going and should be finished by the end of July after which maintenance planning of bridges can start.

IRI by roadclass and zone

International Roughness Index is a key indicator of road surface condition. The main road network (ABC roads) has been mostly completed and the initial results show that the main roads are in decent condition while the collector roads are mostly in poor condition. Later, when maintenance plans are created the IRI of each road and segment will be used in prioritisation of road works.

Digital road network

The previous digital road network of Saint Lucia was digitised from satellite imagery. During the RMMS project the entire digital road network is redone. Currently, most of the ABC roads have been now surveyed, post-processed, cleaned, coded, verified and imported in the road asset database. The advantage of surveying the road alignment with GPS instead of satellite images is higher accuracy for altitude, which is important when road lengths are calculated correctly. [Read More]
